Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) continues its streak of digital online launches with the unveiling of the highly-anticipated 2021 Toyota Fortuner. The updated model range is spearheaded by the new Fortuner LTD 4×4 and 4×2 variants that comes in an exclusive design, followed by Fortuner Q and Fortuner V variants with automatic transmission (AT), and the Fortuner G variant, which is available with AT or 5-speed manual transmission (MT). Starting at an affordable P1,630,000 for the Fortuner G MT, this new updated sport utility vehicle (SUV) offers great value for money with Toyota’s signature quality, durability, and reliability.
During the online launch of the new Fortuner, TMP President Atsuhiro Okamoto recalled how the Fortuner changed the local automotive landscape at a time when entry level sedans and Asian utility vehicles (AUVs) were the crowd favorite because of their affordability. “The Fortuner captured the hearts of many Filipinos as proven by its strong sales”, said Okamoto. “It is an SUV that’s perfect for the Philippines’ flood-prone streets with an array of variants including a fuel-efficient diesel engine, a macho look that satisfies desires, and most of all, an affordable price – making it an achievable dream!”
Drive to Lead in Style
The look of the new Fortuner LTD variant is striking and elegant with its two-tone black roof color combination, bolder and sportier front and rear bumper design, and machine-cut 18-inch alloy wheels. Split-type LED headlamps and LED front foglamps, sequential turn signal lamps, and the redesigned LED rear combination lamps give it a more dynamic design while improving visibility on the road.
The Fortuner Q and Fortuner V variants get LED foglamps and redesigned LED rear combination lamps in addition to its Bi-Beam LED headlamps with LED Line Guide daytime running lights (DRLs) while the Fortuner G variants now come with Bi-Beam LED headlamps with LED DRLs.
Oozing with Confidence, Ease and Control
Ingress is smoother and easier with Smart Entry and Push Button Start/Stop System for the Fortuner LTD, Q, and V grades. The interior of the Fortuner LTD variant features added elegance and sophistication featuring leather seats with maroon accents, galaxy black trim, and interior illumination while the Fortuner Q variant gets the classy black leather interior complemented by a dark wood trim.
The new Fortuner offer increased driver control with the Drive Select Mode that features Eco, Normal and Sport for the LTD and Q variants; and Eco and Power for the V and G variants. In addition, there’s the steering wheel-mounted switches and infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto across all Fortuner variants; an 8-inch touchscreen, wireless charger, rear USB chargers and front and rear automatic control for the Fortuner LTD, Q, and V variants; 8-way power adjustable seats for the Fortuner LTD and Q variants; and front seat ventilation and a 9-speaker JBL sound system exclusively for the Fortuner LTD variant.
Stronger, Safer and More Efficient
TMP Senior Vice President for Marketing Jose Maria “Jing” Atienza emphasized that over 220,000 units of the Toyota Fortuner have been sold since its introduction in 2005. The Fortuner was crowned as the best-selling vehicle in the country in 2017 and it dominated the mid-sized SUV category with over 30% market share in August 2020. TMP is optimistic that with the 2020 update, the Fortuner will further prove itself as a formidable and reliable SUV that is perfect for any city or off-road drive.
Toyota’s proven and reliable 201-horsepower 1GD-FTV engine provides the Fortuner LTD and Q variants with 500 Newton-meters of torque while the 147-hp 2GD-FTV engine powers the Fortuner V and G variants with 400 Nm of torque and offers an additional 5% improvement in fuel efficiency versus the previous generation. For added safety, Toyota equipped the new Fortuner LTD and Q variants with the latest Toyota Safety Sense (TSS) that features a Pre-Collision System, Lane Departure Alert, and Adaptive Cruise Control. All Fortuner variants now come with SRS airbags, 3-point ELR seatbelts, anti-lock brakes (ABS) with Brake Assist and electronic brake force distribution (EBD), vehicle stability control (VSC) with traction control system (TCS), and Hill-Start Assist (HSA) Control while the Fortuner LTD 4×4 variant features Downhill Assist Control (DAC) and seven SRS airbags.
